As we witness what is arguably the most historic bid for a seat in the oval office, holding down the number nine spot on the current New York Best Sellers list takes a fictional look into the role of First Lady.
Curtis Sittenfeld's latest work "American Wife," weaves together wealth, class, and race, in a tale that takes liberties with the biography of our current First Lady Laura Bush.
Sittenfeld tells the tale of a pretty Librarian by the name of Alice Blackwell who who marries the alcoholic son of a wealthy political family. Her husband later goes on to become President.
Her role as First Lady pushes her into a position of power and influence, privilege and responsibility.
During her husband's controversial second term in the White House she deals with the emotions of how to love her husband, when her beliefs are constantly in a battle with her public life.
